Case Study
Industry Collaboration: End User
Optus Satellite is a SERC Participant and end user, and owns a fleet of five communications satellites in geostationary orbit.
Services to manage the fleet are procured from overseas suppliers. Optus would like a cost effective, Australian alternative to overseas services suppliers.
Over the lifetime of SERC, Optus has worked closely with SERC to define the specific requirements of a satellite operator end user.
Optus has been an active member of the Research Management Committee and has provided high-accuracy ephemeris data for their satellite fleet.
The ephemeris data has been critical to
the development of the Research Program 3 conjunction and threat warning system.
A capability demonstration of the system
was held at the Optus Belrose facility in June 2019. Operational trials of the system at Optus commenced in December 2020.
